Kupe Canoe Club AGM 2008
The Kupe Canoe Club AGM will be held on Tuesday 30 September 7.30pm at the Kupe Canoe Clubrooms at Evans Bay (in joint community space in main building, alternate venue clubrooms).
Matters to be discussed include the new operational management of the club now we are based in the new building, election of officers and proposed changes to the constitution (available here).
Several of our club officers are intending on standing down from the committee, so we are looking for club members interested in being involved and helping grow and run the club. Formal positions on the committee include President, Treasurer, Secretary, Club Captain and Membership Officer, and you can also be involved as a committee member. We are particularly looking for people with treasurer or newsletter editor skills!
If you are interested in becoming involved in the club, please come along to the AGM and/ or talk to one of the committee members beforehand.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Monthly Beginners Trip – 13 July 2008
We are planning to run a local river on Sunday 13 July (most likely Otaki River).
Kupe Canoe Club does not exclude any members of other clubs joining us. We also welcome paddlers who are returning to the water and others who may not be affiliated to any club. We will first cater for club members to ensure the trip is safe for them, we will try to ensure we have sufficient ratio of grade 3 or better paddlers to newbies -
so the sooner you let me know that you are coming, what gear you need to hire, if any, your experience level and I will organise the logistics.
If you are going to turn up call me on (04) 9713428 or 021 971792 (leave msg). If leaving a message let me know if you are a newbie or an experienced paddler (we would welcome your help).
The decision on which river we will run and the gathering point will be made on Saturday afternoon 12 July, based on flows and registered interest, so let me know if you want to tag along.
The cost of petrol is making our sport a little more expensive and creates an opportunity to buddy up and share the cost of travel. If you want to be picked up or are able to carry others let me know and I will try to match you up. Remember if you are being picked up to offer at least $10 to defray the cost of fuel (check with your driver), Otaki is a 180 Kms round trip.

Latest News
Updated: November 16th 2007
As you may have noticed Kupe has been quite quiet this year. Its been a year of change for the club with more emphasis and membership from the multisport and AR communities as well as the core whitewater paddlers. We have new club premises at Evans Bay, a new committee and president and we would really love to get the club humming again.
As part of this we'd like to get some cross-pollination of paddlers and really encourage the multisport types to do some whitewater and vice-versa - look out for notices on training and fun events that we are planning to organise!.
Paddles up
Colin Slater, Club Captain.
Pool Nights
The club meets every Wednesday night at Freyburg Pool. The session starts at 8:30pm and runs until 10:00pm. You need to be at the pool by 9pm on club nights, as the pool staff close the til.
There are usually one or two instructors available to help with anything that you might want to practise.
We rely on club members to make these pool sessions work. If anyone
wants to help out as either a liason person
or an instructor then please contact Marty Walsh (027 248 1057).
Boat Storage
Kupe is fortunate to have secured space in the new storage rooms at the Evans Bay TS Amokura base. If you would like to have your boat stored at our clubrooms please enter your boat details on the attached entry form, and we will be in touch to allocate you a space, key and swipe card as well as make you aware of the rules and regulations for boat storage. If you could also please contact one of the Multisport reps to let them know of your requirements this will speed up the allocation of a berth. You must become a club member and have a valid membership to use the boat storage facility however this is a small price to pay for such a great place to leave your vessel ! Join here . Please note that storage rates have had a slight increase to cover the new premises.
