Kupe Canoe Club does not exclude any members of other clubs joining us. We also welcome paddlers who are returning to the water and others who may not be affiliated to any club. We will first cater for club members to ensure the trip is safe for them, we will try to ensure we have sufficient ratio of grade 3 or better paddlers to newbies - so the sooner you let me know that you are coming, what gear you need to hire, if any, your experience level and I will organise the logistics. The cost of petrol is making our sport a little more expensive and creates an opportunity to buddy up and share the cost of travel. If you want to be picked up or are able to carry others let me know and I will try to match you up. Remember if you are being picked up to offer at least $10 to defray the cost of fuel (check with your driver).

Kayaking film show coming to Wellington - 4th April

(Email to the club from Josh Neilson)My name is Josh Neilson and im coming to Wellington on the 4th of April to present a new film i have just finished on whitewater kayaking and adventure. It follows me and friends on a whitewater adventure in USA, Norway and follows 7 Kiwi women on the Nepali Womens Kayak Expedition during 2008. The film is 1 hr long and half is action packed creek boating and the other half is a doccumentary on the journey to nepal to teach Nepalese women to kayak and introduce them into the whitewater industry where previously it has been male dominated. This is the 3rd film i have made for shows around NZ which set out to raise money for a malaria clinic in Uganda where i was treated during a kayak trip there in 2006. This year some of the money will also be donated to the Nepali Womens Kayak Club which was set up as part of the trip and film.

The Film will start at 7pm on Saturday the 4th of April - Venue - Tararua Tramping Club Hall - 4 Moncrief St, (off Elizabeth st) Mt Victoria, Wellington

The cost is $10 at the door and all profits go to the causes listed above.

If this sounds like something you are interested in I look forward to seeing you there, Please pass this on to anyone else who may be also!

See www.whitewater-koa.blogspot.com for more details thanks for your time, josh

Latest News
Updated: November 16th 2007
As you may have noticed Kupe has been quite quiet this year. Its been a year of change for the club with more emphasis and membership from the multisport and AR communities as well as the core whitewater paddlers. We have new club premises at Evans Bay, a new committee and president and we would really love to get the club humming again.
As part of this we'd like to get some cross-pollination of paddlers and really encourage the multisport types to do some whitewater and vice-versa - look out for notices on training and fun events that we are planning to organise!.
Paddles up
Colin Slater, Club Captain.

Pool Nights
The club meets every Wednesday night at Freyburg Pool. The session starts at 8:30pm and runs until 10:00pm. You need to be at the pool by 9pm on club nights, as the pool staff close the til.

There are usually one or two instructors available to help with anything that you might want to practise.

We rely on club members to make these pool sessions work. If anyone wants to help out as either a liason person or an instructor then please contact Marty Walsh (027 248 1057).

Boat Storage
Kupe is fortunate to have secured space in the new storage rooms at the Evans Bay TS Amokura base.

If you would like to have your boat stored at our clubrooms please enter your boat details on the attached entry form, and we will be in touch to allocate you a space, key and swipe card as well as make you aware of the rules and regulations for boat storage. If you could also please contact one of the Multisport reps to let them know of your requirements this will speed up the allocation of a berth.

You must become a club member and have a valid membership to use the boat storage facility however this is a small price to pay for such a great place to leave your vessel ! Join here . Please note that storage rates have had a slight increase to cover the new premises.
